GYNE LOTRIMIN
(clotrimazole)
This medicine is an antifungal agent. It weakens the cell membrane of the fungus which in turn results in the death of the fungus. It is available as a tablet as well as a cream.
Composition of Gyne-Lotrimin:
The active ingredient of this medicine is Clotrimazole 1%. This medicine has certain inactive ingredients as well, such as Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Phosphate Monobasic, Benzyl Alcohol, Polysorbate, Cetyl Esters Wax, Purified Water, and Sorbitan Monostearate.
Uses of Gyne-Lotrimin:
This medicine is used to treat yeast infection and also provide relief in external itching, burning and irritation. It is also used for vaginal discharge which can be the result of the infection.
Side- Effects of Gyne-Lotrimin:
The medicine can have certain side effects which can vary from patient to patient. Most of the patients report minor to no side effects after using this medicine. In case if you have the below side effects, stop using the medicine and contact the doctor immediately.

Contraindications of Gyne-Lotrimin:
This medicine is used for bacterial infections, hence it is important that you do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. It is important not to use this medicine without checking with the doctor. Most of the conditions may not be a yeast infection and hence, need to be treated differently. If you take any prescription or non-prescription medicine or herbal supplement, then share the same with the doctor so that he can advise accordingly and minimize the risk of drug interactions. If you have allergies to food and other substances then do not use this medicine. Apart from this if you have blood disease, liver disease, diabetes, if you have been exposed to HIV, any type of blood disease, if it is the first time the patient has vaginal itching, or if you take antibiotics, make sure that you share the details with the doctor. If the infection is not getting cured or the symptoms return within 2 months of treatment, then do not use this medicine. Insert the applicatorful in the vagina or take some cream and apply it externally. Make sure that you wash your hands immediately after use and not to use in the eye or take it in the mouth. Consult a doctor immediately if either of the above happen. Use the medicine for the full course of the treatment and do not discontinue without consulting the doctor. If the symptoms do not get better within 3 days or last more than 7 days, consult your doctor immediately. You can continue using this medicine even during menstrual period.
Pregnancy and Gyne-Lotrimin:
This medicine should not be used during pregnancy. Notify the doctor immediately if you are pregnant and discuss the potential risks involved. It is not known yet if the medicine is found in the breast milk.
